Cinthia Romo Alba

Sociology | Entering Year: 2021

Cinthia Romo is pursuing her doctorate in sociology. She graduated from Grinnell College where she volunteered with the Liberal Arts in Prison Program and worked as a Sexual Assault Advocate. As Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, she volunteered at the U.S./Mexico border as an immigration paralegal while completing research on the ways in which asylum seekers navigate refugee camp life and the U.S. asylum process. This research coupled with her experience with prison educational programs and restorative justice have shaped her research interests. Thus, in graduate school she hopes to study the intersections of immigration, deviance, and crime or “crimigration.”
