Today I write to invite Medical School and Danforth Campus staff to apply for the university’s development program called PLAN: Professional Leadership Academy & Network.
This is the second offering of the program, with the inaugural class completing the program in 2011. I encourage faculty and administrators to nominate qualified candidates.
Our work on diversity issues has identified leadership development as a critical tool for building and sustaining an inclusive campus community. Julia Macias Garcia, Gail Oltmanns and Shelley Milligan chaired the inaugural program which included an initial cohort of 27 middle and senior managers.
Staff are among our strongest assets; we will again select a cohort of around 25 administrators from across the Medical School, Danforth Campus Schools and the CFU — and bring them together for three intensive three-day sessions, plus monthly lunches and other gatherings. We aim to build a strong team that is well-informed both about higher education as well as our own particular expression here at Washington University.
