PLAN: Professional Leadership Academy & Network

11/11/2010

Today I write to invite Danforth Campus staff to apply for a newly-created development program called PLAN: Professional Leadership Academy & Network. I encourage faculty to nominate qualified candidates through the resource section of the site.

Our work on diversity issues has identified leadership development as a critical tool for building and sustaining an inclusive campus community.  Julia Macias Garcia and Gail Oltmanns have been chairing an extremely productive steering committee which has explored other universities’ programs, developed a Washington University curriculum and created an application process.

Staff are among our strongest assets; this program will select an initial cohort of around 25 administrators from across the Danforth Campus — schools and the CFU — and bring them together for three intensive three-day sessions, plus monthly lunches and other gatherings.  We aim to build a strong team that is well-informed both about higher education as well as our own particular expression here at Washington University.

Please consider applying for PLAN and/or nominate qualified colleagues.  See plan.wustl.edu for more information, as well as nomination/application forms.

Sincerely,
Ed Macias
