Nursing Science | Entering Year: 2020

Brittany Ferrell is pursuing a Nursing Science PhD within an interdisciplinary program at Washington University in St. Louis and Goldfarb School of Nursing. Brittany graduated from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis in May 2020, where she earned a Master of Public Health, and earned a BSN in 2015 from the University of Missouri—St. Louis, where she served for two years as the President of the Black Student Nurses Association. With a background in high-risk obstetric nursing and passion for health equity and Reproductive Justice, through her studies, Brittany seeks to improve the delivery of healthcare to pregnant people across the gender spectrum. In addition to being a nurse and student, Brittany is a full-spectrum doula and community organizer. She has helped mobilize people to take political action from voting to lobbying, and organized events to raise awareness about maternal health disparities and the impacts of systemic and structural racism on social determinants of health. Brittany’s interest involves using research and narrative power to inform policies and shift the culture to improve and transform the health, material, and political conditions of Black communities and communities of color.
