Sophia Hatzikos

MFA Visual Arts | Entering Year: 2022

Sophia Hatzikos is an MFA candidate in Visual Arts whose work is driven by the potential to give old things new life – to stretch their use well past expiration or planned obsolescence – and to envision possibilities for raw materials beyond their purposes as currently understood. Sophia encourages conversations around excessive consumption, a circular economy, and alternative material possibilities. As a Greek American Sophia is deeply inspired by the environment and culture in and around the Mediterranean. Sophia graduated from Wheaton College Massachusetts where she majored in Visual Arts and Economics. At Wheaton, she served as Student Body President and was a member of the Women’s Swim and Dive Team. Prior to attending Washington University Sophia taught sculpture and social impact courses at an independent school in Portland Oregon.
